The Nottingham Centre for Transgender Health is now sending out text opt-ins for first appointment to those who were referred in February 2023. This date refers to the furthest point we have reached in the list. Some people who were referred before this time may not have had their letter yet but will soon. There is a total of 3427 people on the waiting list as of April 2025.
We primarily book first appointments face-to-face. If you are unable to attend face-to-face or need an accessible consultation room, let us know so we can make alternate arrangements. Please note that there may be occasions when there is a clinical need to be seen in-person.

If you were referred before this date, please contact us on 0115 876 0160, Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 8am and 4pm, or email ReferralsNCTH@nottshc.nhs.uk.
We are currently booking second appointments for people seen in November 2023.
Given the large number of patients currently waiting for these appointments, it is extremely important that if people cannot attend their appointment, they let us know 48 hours before so that we can try to give that appointment to someone else.
We appreciate how challenging waiting for appointments can be. We are doing all we can to see people as soon as possible and are currently increasing our clinical capacity to provide these appointments. If you do need support during this time, please contact your GP or local service open to you or consider contacting the Gendered Intelligence Support Line. View our support groups section.
If you have a preference for either an on-line or face-to-face appointment, you can inform us of this, and we will do our best to accommodate this. Please note that there may be occasions when there is a clinical need to be seen in-person.
The most common reason for missing appointments is that we don't have up to date contact information for patients. We send appointments and opt-ins by text or email, and we use your primary care record to access your contact details. Please ensure you keep your details updated on your GP record. This will also update our own system, so the information is sent to your correct number or email address. We cannot update your details independently of your GP, so sending us your new details doesn't help resolve the issue.
Another reason patients miss appointments sometimes is that they may want to postpone their care for a variety of reasons (commonly university/ move/ other big life change) but feel worried about letting us know that, in case they 'lose their place' on the waiting list. If for any reason, now being seen for a first or even second appointment is not the right time for you, please let us know. We will send you and your GP a discharge letter, however it will say that you are welcome back to the clinic when the time is right. You won't go to the bottom of the waiting list if you re-refer but, we will ask your GP for an updated referral form if it has been more than six months since we saw you, or since your original referral was made. Even if we ask this, once the re-referral is received, we will still see you based on your original wait time.
Another reason we sometimes hear for missing appointments is that patients don't understand how to use the Teams video conferencing software. If your appointment is by video, please ensure you download the software and test the appointment link before the date of the appointment. If you really can't use the software, please contact us on 0115 876 0160, Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 8am and 4pm, as soon as you can and at least 48 hours before the appointment, so we can move your appointment to the next available face to face slot and offer your video slot to another patient. Patients who contact us within 48 hours of appointment to tell us that they cannot us the software will have a DNA (did not attend) marker placed on their patient records.
Finally, we know that sometimes you're unavoidably busy at your time of appointment. If you know ahead of time this is the case, please call 0115 876 0160, Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 8am and 4pm to rebook as soon as you realise there is a clash, and definitely more than 48 hours before your appointment to avoid having a DNA (did not attend) marker placed on your patient record. The sooner you let us know, the sooner we can re-book you for another slot and offer your slot to someone else.
In March 2025, 32 patients did not attend their 1st & 2nd assessment appointments. It is important to note that if you DNA two appointments consecutively (back-to-back) you may be discharged from the service as we will assume you no longer wish to be seen by us.
Please call us on 0115 876 0160, Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 8am and 4pm, or email NCTHGeneral@nottshc.nhs.uk.
